Stem cells are the foundation cells for every organ and tissue in our bodies. The highly specialized cells that make up these tissues originally came from an initial pool of stem cells formed shortly after fertilization. Throughout our lives, we continue to rely on stem cells to replace injured tissues and cells that are lost every day, such as those in our skin, hair, blood and the lining of our gut. Stem cells have two key properties: 1) the ability to self-renew, dividing in a way that makes copies of themselves, and 2) the ability to differentiate, giving rise to the mature types of cells that make up our organs and tissues.
Using a biologic wound matrix, non-healing wounds, regardless of their age can be healed in most cases. They can be healed without grafting of tissue which can be painful and may have significant failure rates. The biologic wound matrix promotes rapid angiogenesis and localized cell growth. It is not necessary to do skin or tissue grafting as is presently done. Biologic wound matrix is placed into a surgical site or wound; it is resorbed and replaced with new native tissue where scar tissue would normally be expected. It is intended for the management of wounds including: partial and full-thickness wounds, pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, chronic vascular ulcers, wound dehiscence, abrasions, lacerations, second degree burns, skin tears, trauma wounds and draining wounds. Our goal is to help our patients remain as mobile as possible during the postoperative period. Our commitment is to bring you the latest and most advanced treatment alternatives, personally tailored to return you to a healthier, pain-free lifestyle. At California Foot & Ankle Institute, we strongly believe that utilizing products to safely facilitate healing is the future of medicine. We provide treatments with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Amniofix, Epifix, and Epicord, to name a few. This philosophy and approach to care significantly improves patient’s outcomes and typically shortens recovery times.

California Foot and Ankle Institute uses the latest in regenerative techniques to enhance treatment and recovery for a variety of foot and ankle procedures.
The efficacy of stem cell activators is demonstrated by the regrowth of an amputated finger within ten weeks as shown below.
Regenerative medicine, an interdisciplinary field that applies engineering and life science principles to promote regeneration, can potentially restore diseased and injured tissues and whole organs. There are several products on the market that are proven safe and effective in facilitating the healing of injuries. These materials may be injected into damaged tissues or applied as sheets to cover wounds or defects. There are 4 primary reasons we use these treatments routinely:
CASE STUDY #1, G.G.
The patient is a 59 year old male with diabetes who developed a wound on the right big toe. Further complicating matters, it was discovered that the toes of his left foot had been amputated five years ago due to complications from a similar wound that was not treated properly. Wound care was immediately administered
which included a regular regimen of debridement of all dead tissues and the application of the biologic wound matrix. Within 6 months the right big toe wound was completely healed without any complications.
CASE STUDY #2 J.G.
Patient was a 67 year old male with a chronic open wound on the right leg and foot which had been present for over one year.
The treatment at California Foot and Ankle Institute prevented the patient from having a below-the-knee amputation.
EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF A WOUND IS VITAL TO PREVENT SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS WHICH MAY THREATEN LIFE OR LIMB. IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS SUFFERING FROM A WOUND, DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL FOR AN EVALUATION BY ONE OF OUR EXPERT PODIATRISTS
