Chief Complaint: Severe pain caused by bunions
Treatment: Minimally Invasive Surgery for Bunion Removal
"Hi, my name is Derey. I was born with bunions, severe bunions, on both of my feet. I inherited them from my mother, my uncle had them, and my grandmother. In the late 70s, my mother decided to have an operation on her feet, and they were deformed after the operation – her feet were never the same. Therefore I decided I would never have anyone touch my God-given feet.
Now that I’m getting to be an older person, the arches are kind of collapsing, the toes are squeezing together, and the experience of wearing shoes has been so agonizing. One day, I received a brochure in my mailbox from this clinic, and I kept looking at it and one day I decided, “Yes, I’m going to go in and speak to these people!” They offered a free consultation, and there were pictures of exactly how they would do the operation, the therapy, and everything. I figured, “Well, what do I have to lose?”
So, I came in, and Dr. Weber spent a good hour with me. He took X-rays, he drew on my feet exactly where the incision would go, he discussed everything with me – and not only that, he had fixed several other patients’ feet who had had a operations that had not been successful. I figured, 'This is the right place!'
That was seven weeks ago. A week after that interview, I was operated on. Now I’m six weeks, and I get to take off my shoe. The experience has been really phenomenal. They’ve taken extremely good care of me. We’ve had therapy three times a week, and I feel like the Queen of Sheba sitting here, having them take care of me. The bone has healed properly and I’m looking forward to having the other foot done, and I’ll be able to wear normal shoes. My balance will improve and I can’t say enough. Thank you!"
The Rehabilitation after the surgery was wonderful and the support of staff that Dr. Weber has working in his office are very well trained people"
Chief Complaint: Chronic pain
Treatment: Minimally invasive correction of bunion and hallux limitus.
“My name is Edward Stanley, CRNA. I’m a member of the anesthesia department at Starpoint Health. I’ve been an anesthesia provider since 1977 and I’ve done many anesthetics for different types of surgery I’ve done a lot of orthopedic and podiatry in the past. When I came over to Starpoint Health, I mainly started doing ENT and podiatry anesthesia for surgery and I became very well introduced to Dr. Weber and his technique of doing minimally invasive podiatry surgery.
After I had seen Dr. Weber’s results, I was very impressed. What made me even more impressed is when I was doing other podiatry surgeries at different facilities, [I noticed] how invasive they were as far as making large incisions and putting large apparatuses in the foot to stabilize the bunion, and it was just no comparison, compared to Dr. Weber’s technique of micro-invasive surgery.
As I was working with Dr. Weber, I developed [chronic pain], from being on my feet and having previous surgery on my right foot from a sports injury. When Dr. Weber operated on my foot, it was the day before Thanksgiving, about three years ago. We operated on my foot on a Wednesday night, and I was actually taking a train to visit my family, totally ambulatory, the next day, to San Diego.
In the post-op period, I want to address that I did not have to take any pain medication whatsoever from the procedure. It was basically painless. I’m a very active individual, and I was able to ambulate very easily and I did not miss a day of work. Again, I had it done on a Wednesday evening. I had a full weekend with my family in San Diego on Thursday and Friday, and I spent a weekend at home and was back to work on Monday morning.
The rehabilitation after the surgery was wonderful and the support of staff that Dr. Weber has working in his office are very well trained people. I would highly recommend Dr. Weber and his staff to operate on anyone in my family. Thank you very much. Have a great day!”
Any Kind of question or concern that you have about your foot issues - they're addressed immediately. I've been very impressed with this whole process."
Treatment: Correction of Bunion, Tailor's Bunion, and Hammertoes
“Got bunions? Well, if you’re watching me right now, you either have them, you think you do, or maybe you know someone who does. Well, guess what? I don’t have bunions as of about two months ago and I’m just thrilled with the results.
Many of you out there might have looked on the Internet, like I did, looking up, ‘bunions, what are they’, looking at surgeries, seeing those horrible scars and screws. I did too, and I thought, ‘Ok, that’s just not for me.’ So what I decided to do was throw up to the universe, ‘Alright, bring something in.’ Lo and behold about a week later, this brochure came in the mail. I looked at it and I thought, ‘Wow. Minimally invasive foot surgery, what is that?’
So I made an appointment and I met with Dr. Weber and I was very, very impressed with him. He basically explained what I had. I thought I had two bunions – turns out I had four. I really appreciated his kind, gentle demeanor, and I made an appointment that day for February 28th for my left foot, and then two weeks later I did my right foot, on March 14th.
I was very pleased with the results. I had surgeries on Friday and I went back to work the following Monday. I am an elementary school teacher so I’m on my feet much more than off of them. Through the whole process, all I needed was two ibuprofen. There was minimal pain, minimal discomfort. I was able to drive the next day. I highly recommend this process. I’ve had all kinds of people, including doctors, asking me about the procedure, showing me their feet, and they’re very excited to see the results I’ve had.
Questions you might have:
Is it painful?
No, not so much. The first time I had my left foot done, I was asleep through the whole process. The second time when I had my right foot done, I woke up and I saw an x-ray of my foot. The reason why this process is minimally invasive is because Dr. Weber has an x-ray of your foot right on the screen, so he knows precisely where to go into the foot. There are no screws in my feet, I have two maybe half inch scars that, I’m convinced, in about maybe another month or so will totally be gone. I’m very excited about that. I’m walking fine. There’s maybe a little sensitivity in the toes, but again, I would recommend this process to anyone. I’ve had people coming up to me saying, ‘Oh, I don’t want bunion surgery because I’ll have to be off my feet for 1-2 months.’ And they’re just amazed that I was walking immediately after the process.
You might be wondering, ‘I’ve had bandages - What happens when I shower?’
They have something called ‘Zero Socks’ here, and when I open this up and I’m looking at this little pump with a hole on the end, I thought, “Ok, what is that?!” Basically, what happens is that you put this rubber boot over your foot and your bandage and then you take the little pump and place it here, and the whole thing pumps up. Then, you can go right into the shower without any problems.
Right after the surgery, you’ll be fitted with one of these attractive shoes. Then you’ll wear that for approximately six weeks or so. I was six weeks, and then I did the other foot, as you know, two weeks apart. That worked out well. Also, you will be fitted for a prosthetic and those will be placed in your shoes and you’ll need to wear those to protect your feet.
Another thing that has really impressed me with this whole process is the staff here. I’ve had an opportunity to meet all of the doctors. Dr. Weber, of course, was the surgeon, and he comes in and checks on his patients all of the time. I was very impressed with that, and guess what – it’s the doctors who wrap the feet, not the nurses or x-ray techs, and they are all wonderful. I’ve gotten to know all of them and they just make you feel very comfortable. Any kind of question or concern that you have about your foot issues - they’re addressed immediately. I’ve been very impressed with this whole process.”
My feet look beautiful, and I'm very, very happy! Great results!"
“It’s our understanding that bunions are hereditary – they do run in families and unhappily, my mother had severe bunions and horribly deformed feet. She lived to be into her nineties and they were quite a problem for her. About ten years ago my wife developed some severe problems with her bunions, and I threatened her – I told her she would wind up like my mom if she didn’t get something done. So she came into the foot and ankle center here and had the surgery very successfully and has been very happy with the result.
Of course, both my daughter, Christine, and I have had symptoms and growing problems with our feet, so the challenge arose to have Christine get her feet done first, so that when I had mine done, she could drive me to work and take me home.
On the first route, I brought her over, and her mom brought her over and we’ve done this. I’ve got some medical problems of my own having to do with heart issues. I take Coumadin and I was concerned about some swelling in the ankles or bruising or bleeding, and I was very delighted to find that the procedure was very mild in terms of the impact and the outcome on my feet.
I was back at work three days later. I do have a desk job, so I wasn’t on my feet, but I’ve been very functional since the first week of the surgery. I’m able to walk around now two weeks into the process without any significant issues. Certainly I limp, but that’s to be expected. Chris, of course, is coming to the end of the process on her second foot, and now she can say something about her experience.”
“Well, just like my dad, I’ve experienced very little pain, very little swelling or any of that following my surgery. Things have gone very well, in fact, this past weekend, actually coming to the end of my 5th week, I went to a convention and was able to walk the exhibit hall floor for a couple of hours with really no trouble at all, whereas before, when I went to conventions, went to Disney Land, or things like that, after a while, my bunions would start hurting and just walking would be a bit painful. Now, it’s great. My feet look beautiful, and I’m very, very happy! Great results!”
“That’s where we are in the process and in several weeks I’ll probably have the second foot done and continue through this. The outcome for us has been very good up tothis point, and certainly I can speak for my wife – she’s had 10 years of pain-free walking and activity on feet that were done here a number of years ago. If that’s what we can look forward to, then we’re delighted with everything that has occurred.”
As a retired physician, I was extremely pleased. I was extremely delighted at everything that came out, and I've referred patients here in the past."
“Good afternoon. Thank you, Dr. Weber, for permitting me to relate my experiences with the California Foot and Ankle Institute. I first came to you about two years ago via a brochure that arrived at my home. I was quite impressed, so I came in for my initial visit. You examined me and I spoke about the pain I was having while walking and also the marked irregularity in many of my toes as well as the bunions. So, doctor, you felt that you could certainly do the job and straighten them out for me. I was very concerned – I had discussed with you at that time the pain I’d be having, the post-operative problems and you said to me not to worry. Being a retired physician, I took you at your word and you sounded very appropriate, you were extremely professional in your examination and discussion. As a result of that, I decided to go forward with the procedure. My left foot was done first. I went home right after the procedure – I was driven home because I obviously was coming out of anesthesia and couldn’t drive – and had a very restful evening. I did very well – had absolutely no problems at all. Absolutely no problems at all. It’s amazing. I think I took one Tylenol, 500 mg, and that was about it. I came to see Dr. Weber on Monday. The procedure was done on a Friday. He was delighted at my progress, the dressings were changed, there was minimal bleeding, minimal, MINIMAL, I must tell you, minimal pain. Of course I was in a boot, and I was watching my procedure of walking, and I was very pleased. Through the following months as things progressed, Dr. Weber did my toes – straightened them out as there were a marked number of hammertoes and difficulties I’ve had over the years. Then we did the right foot, also for the bunion and a few hammertoes. Overall my experience here at the Foot and Ankle Institute, under Dr. Weber’s care and surgical procedures, were all done without any complications. I must tell you that as a retired physician, I was extremely pleased. I was extremely delighted at everything that came out, and I’ve referred patients here in the past. If I can be of any further assistance to you in discussing this issue, feel free to contact me at any time. Thank you.”

The Staff is fabulous, they welcome you like you are part of your family"
“I had bunion surgery about 25 years ago, the traditional surgery. I was off work for a few works, I had no physical therapy, and my feet continued to bother me after that. I have a coworker who came to Dr. Weber and raved about him, so I came in and scheduled my surgery for a Friday. I was back to work on Monday, I started physical therapy on Monday right away, and hardly any pain medication – maybe the first couple of nights, and that was it.
The staff is fabulous, they welcome you like you are part of your family. They attend to you every minute you are in the room waiting, which is not a long wait. They get you in, they get you out and I would recommend Dr. Weber and his staff to anybody!”
My feet look beautiful and I am just as active, if not more, than before the procedures. I am no longer embarrassed to show off my feet and I am extremely happy with the results.
Age: 44 Chief Complaint: Bunions and Tailor Bunions both feet; Hammertoe deformity of the right foot. Treatment: : Minimally invasive surgical correction of the bunions and tailors bunions both feet and the hammertoe deformity of the right foot. “I had been struggling with issues associated with bunions for most of my adult life; but more specifically over the past three years, the symptoms had presented themselves as increasingly problematic. I received a flyer for the California Foot and Ankle Institute about 2 years ago and kept it on my desk, in eyes view, consistently wondering if the standard of care for the treatment of bunions was, in fact, as unique and innovative as the flyer described. In April of 2011, I ran the Orange County 1/2 marathon and really struggled with pain, blisters and severe irritation due my bunions. It was then decided that I would contact Dr. Weber for a free consultation to discuss my options. Dr. Weber spent a considerable amount of time with me, discussing the scope and methodology of the procedure and what I could expect during the recovery process. Additionally, I received a great feeling from the staff at the center, which also put my mind at ease. Because of my comfort level, I decided to schedule surgeries for both feet only 2 weeks apart. Dr. Weber and his staff were very supportive and confident that I would be able to transition smoothly through the healing process and expressed to me their commitment to ensure that I would be comfortable all the way through. Following the first surgery, I was shocked by how mobile and comfortable I was. I found myself back in the gym within three days of the surgery and was able to modify my workouts to accommodate my post-op shoe. I realized early on, that the more I stayed reasonably active on my foot, the more efficient my recovery was. The second surgery proved to be no different and I was back to a relatively active lifestyle within a week. Even with both feet in recovery, I found many ways to stay active and mobile to assist in the healing process. The ability to attend physical therapy 3 times a week was a welcome recovery point for me, in that the staff made me feel very comfortable and always provided me with words of encouragement that helped me through my process. I am extremely impressed by how quickly the effects of surgery healed (bruising and swelling} and how small and insignificant the scars were. I am aware that "'traditional" bunion surgery tends to manifest in long scars and hardware associated with recovery, but Dr. Weber's procedure demonstrated impressive, innovative techniques that resulted in a very successful recovery with incredible results. I am now 7 months out from the surgeries and I could not be happier! My feet look beautiful and I am just as active, if not more, than before the procedures. I am no longer embarrassed to show off my feet and I am extremely happy with the results. I would highly recommend California Foot and Ankle Institute to anyone searching for innovative care for any presenting podiatry needs, and I am extremely grateful to Dr. Weber and his staff for the extraordinary care I received during my experience.”
I am amazed that I suffered for three and a half years, and I am excited that I have found Dr. Weber and his services and expertise.
Age: 49 Chief Complaint: Tailors bunion left foot with and bone spurs between the toes on the left foot. Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the tailors bunion left foot with removal of the bone spurs on the lesser toes left foot. “For two years I had an infected area between my pinky toe and my next toe on my left foot. I tried topical solutions recommended by my family doctor and that didn't work. I went back to my family doctor and then he would cut out the infected area, and without fail it would come back in six weeks. I then went to a hospital wound center. They had me come back over a six-month period and the wound never healed. I received a flyer from Dr. Weber's office about a new laser treatment for toenails and saw in the flyer that they also treated other foot problems. I arranged an appointment with Jessica to come in. I showed him my toenails and then showed him the wound between my toes. I asked him if he has seen this before, and if he could treat this? He thoroughly explained why the wound was there. I went home and thought about the surgery that needed to be preformed and decided to have it. It has now been two years and the wound has never come back. He had to perform surgery on my two toes to alleviate the friction between the toes. I am amazed that I suffered for three and a half years, and I am excited that I have found Dr. Weber and his services and expertise. His team of nurses and office staff were always very pleasant upbeat and effective in the rehabilitation of my surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Weber to anyone who has this condition or other conditions with their feet.”
I exhibited literally no pain or distress from any of the procedures performed
Age: 73 Chief Complaint: Bunions and Tailor Bunions both feet; Hammertoe deformities of both feet. Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the bunions and tailors bunions both feet and the hammertoe deformities of both feet. “As a retired physician I decided to have my bunions and hammer toes corrected. After careful consideration I chose the California Foot and Ankle Institute. This decision was arrived at after meeting and being examined by the caring and knowledgeable physicians there, who I felt were truly concerned about my care and welfare because I was now their patient. We have all heard about various stories being portrayed by patients in the past with reference to pain and difficulties. My experience at the California Foot and Ankle Institute can only be expressed as excellent and I exhibited literally no pain or distress from any of the procedures performed. The exceptional staff and post-operative care was superb. Naturally I felt that I had chosen the proper physicians in taking care of my foot problems that plagued me for the past 35 years and it gives me great pleasure to recommend them for appropriate foot care for anyone in need.”

I now have less pain in my feet and back, and I can wear my cute heels without trying to take them off"
Age: 32 Chief Complaint: Bunions and Tailor Bunions both feet; Hammertoe deformity of the right foot. Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the bunions and tailors bunions both feet and the hammertoe deformity of the right foot. “I came to Dr. Weber's office with bunions on both feet. A mild bunion on the left foot and a severe bunion on the right foot, with a middle toe that was longer than the rest and would always pinch in the front of my high heels. I am a bartender, an athlete, and on my feet all the time. I would have pain in my feet and my back due to this bunion issue. After having two surgeries, one foot at a time about 6 weeks apart, my toes now point forward and my back pain has significantly decreased! My surgeries were both done on a Friday. Saturday is the start of my week, and I returned back to work the day after both surgeries to work an 8 hour day, with minimal pain; followed by working 8 hour shifts on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as well. I was diligent in icing my foot as instructed and came to all therapy appointments. I now have less pain in my feet and back, and I can wear my cute heels without trying to take them off. I would highly recommend this procedure to anyone with similar issues!”
Your knowledge about this was remarkable and put me at ease immediately"
Age: 63 Chief Complaint: Bunion left foot. Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the left bunion. “I just wanted to take a moment to write you a note thanking you all for such a wonderful experience before, during and after my bunionectomy and laser treatments. I can't thank you enough for such a wonderful job you did on my foot. You made me feel so comfortable about having this surgery from the moment I sat down with you to go over the procedure. Your knowledge about this was remarkable and put me at ease immediately. Even in the surgery room before I was sedated, you made me feel so comfortable about it all. Thank you again! I also want to commend your complete staff on such courteousness and kindness they showed each and every patient who walked into that office. Jessica and Jackie were always so pleasant and were full of cheerfulness every time I or anyone else walked into that waiting room. They made us feel so welcome and always greeted us by name, even when I'm sure there were times when they didn't feel that way. That, in itself, is very impressive, and makes a person feel very important. Last, but not least... Dr. Reuter… well, what can I say? I'm so appreciate all the foot massages he gave me! Ha... I kept telling him he was really there to torture me, but I knew if "there was no pain, there was no gain." He is a wonderful and kind person and has a very calming spirit. He was always smiling and made me feel like everything would be okay. And it was. My foot always felt better after his treatments, even though he had to put me through a little pain to get there. He also worked well with me on the laser treatments too, even though I almost kicked him in the face when my foot reacted to the heat. I also referred a friend there to have laser treatments and, she too, marveled at his wonderful smile and personality. He is definitely an asset to that office! The staff there is just terrific and I won't hesitate to recommend your services to anyone who needs their feet worked on. Keep up the good work and, most of all, keep up the good rapport with your patients. It does matter to us how we are treated, and because of that we will always come back when we need your services and expertise. Thanks again for everything ... it was a pleasure getting to know you all.”
I am beginning to walk and run pain free again.
Age: 68 Chief Complaint: Painful callouses on the bottom of both feet and hammertoe deformities of both feet. Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the lesser metatarsals both feet and hammertoe deformities of both feet. “For many years, I have had problems with my feet. Your office was recommended to me by my sister, who received a complimentary exam from your Irvine Office. When I came to the Victorville Office, I was impressed by your posted Mission Statement -- "We are dedicated to exceeding each of our patients expectations by providing timely compassionate and individualized medical care." After my first exam the correction process began promptly. Laser treatment and four other surgeries. Consequently, I am beginning to walk and run pain free. My experience has been extremely positive in regards to the professionalism by the Doctors, nurses and support staff. I would without hesitation recommend California Foot and Ankle Institute.”
WOW! I was walking the next day! The scarring was minimal, and the pain was too!
Age: 47 Chief Complaint: Bunions and Tailor Bunions both feet Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the bunions and tailors bunions both feet. “Being a sole proprietor doesn’t leave room for much downtime. So when my friend told me about a new minimally invasive procedure, I was “all ears.” You see, four years ago, I had traditional bunion surgery on my right foot, which was a very unpleasant experience with a lot of down time – four months to be exact. Once the excruciating pain subsided, I was only mobile with the use of a wheel chair (2 months approximately). Then I graduated to crutches before I could add any pressure. After my free consultation with Dr. Weber of the California Foot and Ankle Institute, I schedule my appointment to get my left foot done. WOW! I was walking the next day! The scarring was minimal, the pain was too. California Foot and Ankle Institute provides phenomenal service, and the staff is awesome too. I highly recommend it.”
After my surgery, which included two tailor bunions, I recovered quickly. I had no pain, just a little discomfort, and was able to resume my daily activities."
Age: 45 Chief Complaint: Tailor bunions both feet. Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the tailors bunions both feet. “I would like to thank you for the outstanding job you did with my surgery in May 1988. I realize this letter is late, but when I saw you in June, I was reminded that I promised to write. It is a pleasure to know there are doctors like you who perform successful surgeries. After my surgery, which included two tailor bunions, I recovered quickly. I had no pain, just a little discomfort, and was able to resume my daily activities such as housework, grocery shopping and cooking very soon after surgery. I have and will continue to recommend you to our friends and neighbors. In fact, I wish you would open an office here in Sun City West. Perhaps you could train a new foot doctor for this area. I would help to fill his or her schedule. I wish you continued success in your medical practice and again, thank you for your professionalism and excellent care.”
It was a very worthwhile experience for me and I would readily recommend it
Age 56 Chief Complaint: Bunion right foot. Treatment: Minimally invasive surgical correction of the right bunion. I want to tell you how pleased I am with the bunion correction which you performed on my right foot on December 29, 1995, and how truly “minimally invasive” this experience truly was for me. First of all, I want to thank Laranie Roth for all her personal attention. In a very professional manner, she answered all of my questions and assured me that my medical insurance would cover everything. As to my post-operative recovery: I was able to carry on my regular business activities within a few days, without any difficulty. I only experienced enough discomfort to cause me to take a pain pill for a few days; less than a week. I was able to ride my bicycle the following Thursday, just six days after the procedure. I ran a 10K race on February 25th, just eight weeks after the procedure and I finished just three minutes later than my “regular” time. I skied all day at Bear Mountain on February 29th, less than nine weeks after the procedure. Of equal importance was the incredible courtesy of your office staff. Laraine, Linda, and Holly all cheerfully accommodated my crazy requests for magazines to read, hotter water in the whirlpool and more current with the electric therapy. In fact, they made me feel so welcome and treated me so well, that I actually looked forward to my visits. Also, Dr. Hickey’s tactful responses to my incessant questions and his skillful re-bandaging were done in a most professional manner. All in all, it was a very worthwhile experience for me and I would readily recommend it to any person who is concerned about his or her ability to continue to run or jog. I am now running as well as I ever have!
I felt a considerable improvement about one third into the program.
Age: 76 Chief Complaint: Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment: Micro-vas therapy A Neurologist wrongly diagnosed me with Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome (TTS). I walked around for 1 year carefully, hoping that the pain would go away. In fact, it was just the opposite. The throbbing, tingling and numbness all got worse and I was told he could not do anything more for me. Next I saw a surgeon who used cortisone for treatment. I received 4 cortisone shots in my back and 2 cortisone shots in my ankles. Over time the pain increased and the results of treatment would not show immediately. I went into Dr. Weber’s program as positive as I could be. He and his staff made it pleasant for me to stay positive. I felt a considerable improvement about one third into the program. I could feel the ultra sound treatment on my feet where there was previously a substantial loss of feeling and awareness. I am not there yet but I can walk straight in full steps. The throbbing, tingling and numbness are still there but the severity is down by 60%. I am back to the gym with hope to enable my legs to rebuild strength.
