Diagnosis of Plantar Fasciitis

  • Digital X-rays
  • Ultrasound (Sonography)
  • MRI

Conservative Treatments

  • Orthotics. This is perhaps the easiest form of treatment.  Orthotics are either “over the counter” or customized arch supports made for the individual to provide proper foot, heel, and ankle alignment.  Many patients elect to buy over the counter orthotics and we recommend the following: https://amzn.to/3Qu4H3K
  • Physical Therapy. Utilizing a combination of Electrostimulation, Therapeutic ultrasound, Hydrotherapy, Stretching, Massage, and Foot Taping will assist in reducing pain, inflammation as well helping the patient get back regain function and return to activity.
  • Corticosteroid Injections
  • Taping. We will tape the foot in such a way to protect the injured plantar fascia and restrict motion. In many cases, patients will learn to tape themselves. We recommend using KT tape which is easily purchased online: https://amzn.to/3zJAGGW
  • Night Splints. These are designed to be worn at night to passively stretch the calf, Achilles tendon, and arch during bedtime so there is reduced tension to the heel when the patient takes the first step in the morning or after rest. These devices are simple to use and very effective. You may easily purchase a night splint online at: https://amzn.to/3xXyUkm
  • Regenerative Medicine:
    • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).  PRP  therapy uses your own blood plasma to speed the recovery time and get you back on your feet faster. PRP replacement therapy works by spinning your blood at a very high speed. This allows us to isolate the plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors. Then, we inject this PRP into the area where you’re experiencing heel pain to help it heal faster. This is done in our office so there is little downtime. Often it’s used in conjunction with other treatments and therapies giving you the best results.
    • Amniotic Tissue Injection. Amniotic tissues, which are abundant in growth factors, help reduce inflammation and promote faster healing.  This is done in our office as well.
