An Ankle Sprain Isn’t Something to Skate Around

Comments (0)

Ankle in castThe OC Chill Ice Rink at Irvine Spectrum Center is once again open for business, providing a festive spot to show off some elegant skating well into the new year. It’s also, unfortunately, a place where one’s risk of an ankle sprain grows a bit higher. If you do happen to suffer the opposite of a “miracle on ice” and hurt your ankle, please think twice before deciding to just shrug it off.

While many ankle sprains will recover well enough with some self-care, there can still be significant risks if the damage does not heal properly or the injury repeatedly occurs. The balance of the ligaments around the ankle joint can become disrupted, leading to chronic pain or even ankle instability. Weak stability can lead to even more sprains down the road, decreasing stability further and creating a vicious cycle.

Whenever you have suffered an ankle sprain, it’s worth getting in touch with us here at California Foot and Ankle Institute. We can help you determine whether your injury requires special care to avoid long-term complications, and how to get your ankle back to full strength without risking another mishap. If your ankle seems to experience this twist of fate relatively often, contacting us becomes even more important.

We wish you the best on the ice or wherever you choose to spend the coming months, but know we’re here for you just in case anything goes wrong with the feet and ankles. Schedule an appointment by calling our two area offices: 949) 833-3406 for Irvine or (760) 951-2000 for Victorville. You can also reach us toll-free by calling (888) 796-6631.
